Ingredients and Steps

Big text, no distractions — for the stove

Ingredients

  • Flour
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Vegetable oil

Steps

  1. 1Bring water, a little oil, salt, and sugar to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. 2Remove the pan from the heat and stir in flour all at once, beating vigorously with a wooden spoon until a smooth, thick dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. 3Let the dough cool for a few minutes, then transfer it to a piping bag fitted with a large star-shaped nozzle.
  4. 4Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to about 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. 5Pipe the dough directly into the hot oil in long strips, cutting each one with scissors or a knife as it reaches the desired length.
  6. 6Fry the churros in batches for about 3 minutes, turning occasionally, until deep golden brown and crisp on the outside.
  7. 7Drain briefly on paper towels, then toss the warm churros in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
  8. 8Serve hot alongside a cup of thick hot chocolate for dipping.
