Ingredients

  • Ahi tuna
  • Soy sauce
  • Sesame oil
  • Green onion
  • Sweet onion
  • Sesame seeds
  • White rice
  • Seaweed salad
  • Macadamia nuts

Steps

  1. 1Cut the raw ahi tuna into even bite-sized cubes, keeping the pieces as uniform as possible for even seasoning.
  2. 2In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, and a little sugar until combined.
  3. 3Add thinly sliced sweet onion, chopped green onion, and sesame seeds to the bowl.
  4. 4Gently fold the cubed tuna into the marinade, tossing carefully so every piece gets coated without breaking apart.
  5. 5Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes, no longer, so the fish stays fresh and firm.
  6. 6Scoop warm steamed white rice into serving bowls as the base.
  7. 7Spoon the marinated poke generously over the rice.
  8. 8Add a small portion of seaweed salad alongside the poke for a briny contrast.
  9. 9Scatter crushed macadamia nuts and a few extra sesame seeds over the top just before serving from the counter.
